Welcome

A warm welcome to Kilcooley Primary School and Nursery Unit.  Our website has been specially designed for you, our school community.  We want every child to achieve the best they can in a happy, nurturing and restorative environment.  Our experienced team of enthusiastic staff members ensure daily that the children are at the heart of this community.

A little bit of history about Kilcooley...

Kilcooley Primary School first opened in September 1969 to support the children of nearby areas and the surrounding community in Kilcooley Estate, one of the largest housing estates in North Down.  Since opening in 1969, we have experienced a continuous growth in our pupil enrolment and interest in our Nursery Unit and Specialist Provision.

In September 2009, we set up the first Nurture Group provision in a North Down primary school.  Known as the Rainbow Room, our nurture group provides help to remove the social and emotional barriers that individual children have towards learning.  It is a short-term intervention group that aspires to help young children to transition from home-life into their mainstream classroom.

Ten years after the establishment of our Nurture Group provision, we started our Specialist Provision with just one learning support class in September 2019.

Today, we have nine full specialist provision classes ranging from Nursery to P7 that deals with a wide range of additional needs.  Our specialist provision helps to alleviate the needs within the area for specialist places and has specific facilities to cater to the needs of each child including two specialised outdoor play areas and a shared sensory space.
