Kilcooley Connect Project
Kilcooley Connect Project is led by the P7 pupils and is based on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing - Be Active, Give, Keep Learning, Take Notice and Connect. The focus of the project is for pupils to look after their health and well-being, emphasising the positive impact of being kind to others and themselves. We are a Take 5 school so the P7 pupils are building on the amazing experience they have had throughout their school journey from Nursery - P7 in relation to their wellbeing.
Parents are encouraged to take part in the project and they have the opportunity to get involved in all activities. The mental health of children is connected to their parents' mental health. If we can reach more parents, to help them in any way we can, then they will be better placed to help their children. How we all connect with nature, ourselves and each other is vital to our overall health and wellbeing. Together we can achieve amazing things.
Charity Cycle
They kick off the beginning of the Kilcooley Connect Project with their annual charity cycle from Kilcooley Primary School to Holywood in October. Donations of long life food is collected from our community. All donations are delivered to Team Haven who distribute them to people who are homeless and vulnerable. Pupils use our cycle zone in school to enhance their cycling skills at break and lunch time. They also take part in numerous sunrise cycles to the coast before school to build up their stamina, while enjoying our beautiful surroundings.
Sea Dips
During September pupils are introduced to sea dipping at Helen's Bay. Cold water exposure has many potential benefits which include: reducing anxiety, increasing resilience, increasing blood flow, improving sleep and bringing you into the present. There are many opportunities for all pupils and parents to take part throughout the year at various coastal locations.
Mountain Climbs
All pupils, parents and members of the community come together in May to hike Slieve Doan in the Mourne Mountains for a day of connecting with nature and each other. We have regular sunrise walks to the top of Cavehill on Saturday mornings to help prepare for the Mournes.
Donaghadee Sailing club
In June, we visit the Donaghadgee Sailing Club for some incredible opportunities to try snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing.
